Adaptive reuse of a defunct heritage orthodox tea factory for Harrisons Malayalam group
Harrisons Malayalam is an Indian agricultural business corporation, based in Kochi, Kerala and a part of the RPG Group. It has a history that goes back to over 150 years.
The defunct 90-year-old tea factory stood tall above its immediate surroundings, with soot covered cladding sheets that were barely hanging on, and wooden floors that were rotting away due to moisture. It felt like a reminder of a by gone era.
The then CEO of the group Mr. Venkitraman Anand and his team, worked with us in converting the factory to Green Tea production for smaller volumes.
We converted the upper floors of the factory, that were previously used for withering of fresh leaf, into a viewing gallery for visitors and tourists.
Integrated an educational experience on tea history, tasting and retail.
The Old Steel structure was protected and preserved. The wooden floors repaired and re-laid, windows replaced and new green tea production machines brough inside.
Thus, brining life back to the building and the place.
